This 10-night holiday starts in Maine, exploring the quieter Maine coast and Acadia National Park before crossing the Roosevelt Campobello International Bridge to discover New Brunswick, Canada.You will enjoy whale watching and experiencing the high tides of the Bay of Fundy, before you head back in to the USA for two final nights, finishing your trip in Boston.

Day 2

Freeport to Bar Harbor

Drive to Bar Harbour, en-route call in and explore the pretty and popular little coastal town of Camden. 

Enjoy an afternoon of leisure in downtown Bar Harbor. Visit the George B. Dorr Museum of Natural History which investigates, interprets and displays the natural world of Maine. All exhibits in this museum are designed and produced by students at the College of the Atlantic. Also visit the Abbe Museum where you will learn of the Wabanaki, Native people who have lived in the area now called Maine for many thousands of years.

Day 3

Bar Harbor

Today you will visit the majestic Acadia National Park.

Explore the Park Loop Road in Acadia National Park, a 27-mile road system which offers outstanding views of the park’s ocean shoreline, coastal forests and mountain silhouettes. In the afternoon, visit the Mount Desert Oceanarium and Lobster Hatchery for a unique experience of learning about the local ocean-life and of lobster fishing, the lifeblood of coastal Maine.  Afterwards, embark on a fun and informative ride aboard a traditional lobster boat. The Lulu Lobster Boat Ride takes you through Frenchman Bay.  Observe sea birds, bald eagles and other marine wildlife in their natural environment and hear stories and anecdotes about the area – some factual and some legend.

Day 4

Bar Harbor to St Andrews

Depart Bar Harbor this morning and travel to Campobello Island. Before crossing to the island, visit the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, a picturesque lighthouse which stands on the easternmost point of the United States mainland. 

Cross the Roosevelt Campobello International Bridge onto Campobello Island. While on the island, visit Roosevelt Campobello International Park which encompasses over 1,158 ha (2,800 acres) of forest, bog, and seashore. Beautiful flower gardens, scenic trails, and magnificent vistas are all here to see and enjoy. Tour the Roosevelt summer home, a truly impressive residence with 34 rooms. Depart mid-afternoon for St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick by way of Route 1 via Calais.

Day 5

St Andrews

At your leisure in St Andrews, maybe take a whale watching trip or visit Ministers Island or the Blockhouse. Enjoy some leisure time in downtown St. Andrews National Historic District including perhaps visiting to the beautiful Kingsbrae Gardens.

Day 6

Saint Andrews to St. Martins

Drive to St Martins and explore the Fundy Trail.

The Fundy Trail opens up previously unreachable areas of the Bay of Fundy coastline and panoramic views. The 19 km (11.8 miles) trail begins just outside St. Martins, New Brunswick and is less than an hour’s drive from Saint John or Sussex on Route 111. Hugging cliff tops above the world’s highest tides, the Fundy Trail winds its way along one of the last remaining coastal wilderness areas between Florida in the USA and Labrador in Newfoundland. The area is the breeding habitat for Right Whales and is one of the best places in the world for viewing marine and wildlife.

Day 7

St. Martins to Shemogue

Drive through Shediac and the Fundy National Park and if time (and tides) permit visit Hopewell Rocks.

The Hopewell Rocks is one of New Brunswick’s Top Attractions.  Open seasonally from mid-May to mid-October, the Hopewell Rocks is located along the coast of the Bay of Fundy, which is home to the world’s highest tides.

The Hopewell Rocks is a self-directed park, however interpretive staff are located at key areas to answer any questions you may have. In addition to the opportunity to walk on the ocean’s floor, there are two sandy beach areas at either end of the park and a number of well-marked walking trails.

Day 8

Shemogue to Fredericton

Revisit Hopewell Rocks to see them at either low or high tide depending on the state of the tide the previous day. Then continue on to Fredericton.

Fredericton is the capital of New Brunswick. It has been both a French and British settlement and the heritage of both are apparent. It’s located on the Saint John River and the city centre is compact enough to explore by foot. Some of the highlights are The Beaverbrook Gallery, the historic Garrison District, and the Old Burial Ground, also on Saturdays is the Boyce Farmers Market (voted as one of Canada’s top 10 markets).

There are also many, many marked walking trails in and around Fredericton.

Day 9

Fredericton to Boothbay

Spend the morning exploring Fredericton before departing for Maine and exploring in Belfast.

A small (population approx. 7,000) up-and-coming city situated on picturesque Penobscot Bay, Belfast still retains its authentic New England feel with a vibrant waterfront and an historic downtown. It’s a great little city to explore on foot.

Then overnight in Boothbay at the Tugboat Inn.

Day 10

Boothbay to Boston

Travel back to Boston, maybe stopping at Freeport for some last minute shopping for bargains at one of the many outlet stores.

Freeport is also the home of L.L Bean. And if time permits consider visiting Salem, famous for the Salem Witch Trials. When in Boston you could visit the spectacular Faneuil Hall marketplace, or the historic Boston Common. When the evening comes, you could take in a game at the world famous Fenway Park.

Overnight in Boston.

Day 11

Boston

Spend the last of your time finishing your exploration of Boston, you could visit the New England Aquarium which features over 2,000 animals! You could also visit Cheers, the setting for the classic comedy, Cheers.

Then head back to Boston Aiport for your flight back to the UK.
