Wolf Watching in Yellowstone National Park Escorted Tour

5 nights

In 1995, wolves were re-introduced into Yellowstone National Park and now there are several packs within the park. You, with the help of Frontier America, can view them in their natural habitat, with the best viewing available in the winter months.

Both Nathan Varley and Linda Thurston have a lifetime of experience working with wolves in the Rocky Mountains, and that gives you the best chance of viewing the wolves, although sighting is never guaranteed. The tours have a maximum of 15 people with one tour operating per month, whilst itineraries do vary slightly from month to month the one provided is the most typical one.

You will then travel to your hotel for the next 4 nights, the Absaroka Lodge in Gardiner. A comfortable motel in the town of Gardiner, your room will overlook the roaring Yellowstone River as well as the rolling hills and snow-clad mountainous terrain. Day 3

Yellowstone National Park

An early start today around 6am, with breakfast served on-the-go, and head off into the Northern Range area of the park. The search for wildlife is often fruitful in this area of patchy forest and meadowland. You will also visit other wolf-rich areas such as Slough Creek and the Lamar Valley. You will mostly view from the road using binoculars and may also see other wildlife such as Elk, Bison and Moose. Wearing warm clothing such as insulated winter boots is advised due to some short treks. After a morning of tracking you will head to the Dan Hartman Gallery for lunch, and view some of his work as a naturalist, photographer and wildlife filmmaker. Dinner will be served at the Animal Track Education Centre.
