Day 2

South Hood Canal

You will start your day in one of the quietest reaches of Puget Sound—Hood Canal, a glacial fjord separating the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas. A short sail will take you to the Peninsula where you will hike in the Olympics, surrounded by rainforest, old growth forest, and small quaint towns. Keep watch for resident bald eagles. A local family joins the ship for a tasting of their home-grown oysters and clams.

Day 3

Quilcene Bay / Port Townsend

The intertidal wetlands of Quilcene Bay - the pearl of the peninsula - make the ideal setting for kayaking, skiff exploration, and excellent birding opportunities. This afternoon, cruise along lesser visited channels keeping watch for gray whales, orcas, seals and sea lions, and learn the history of Puget Sound’s "Triangle of Fire". This evening, dock in historic Port Townsend for a special presentation on local Native cultures.

Day 4

Salish Sea / Deception Pass

The timing for today all depends on tides and currents, but the morning has you underway for bird watching, possibly around Protection Island—a federally protected National Wildlife Refuge and nesting site for tufted puffins and rhinoceros auklets. Cap off the day with afternoon hikes, shore walks, and kayaking near the glorious Deception Pass.

Day 5

Lopez Island / Orcas Island

Today lands you in one of the prettiest areas of the San Juan Islands. The rocky outcroppings of Lopez Island play host to harbour seals, and it is orca whale territory. Keep your eyes peeled above and below the surface, whether you opt for kayaking or a chance to snorkel. At Orcas Island, a local favourite occupation is to hike Mount Constitution—the highest peak in the San Juan Islands. If you prefer water pursuits the kayaks and paddle boards are ready for you.

Day 6

Captain’s Choice / Friday Harbor

Pull anchor, then your Captain leads the way as you explore narrow passages throughout the archipelago in search for whales, sea lions, and other marine life. Later you’ll have time on your own to explore the intriguing whale museum, art galleries, and boutiques of charming Friday Harbor, once an important whaling centre.

Day 7

Sucia Island

For your final treat, enjoy the day anchored at picturesque Sucia Island - total population of four - a Washington State Marine Park filled with hidden coves and bays. Explore the intertidal zone with your expedition team, hike across the island, and kayak in a protected bay. Weather permitting; there will be a barbeque ashore. The Ship - Wilderness Adventurer

Refurbished in early 2011, the 60-guest Wilderness Adventurer is the perfect size to explore the inshore waters of Washington and Alaska. It has plenty of deck space to enjoy the wildlife encounters and a cosy main lounge to relax and socialise.

The sun deck has an on-deck hot tub, sauna and fitness equipment; the observation deck allows for over-the-top viewing from the bow; and the EZ Dock launch platform on the main deck makes getting in the water a cinch. Onboard are kayaks; stand-up paddle boards; inflatable skiffs; hiking poles; yoga mats; hydrophone for listening to below-surface sounds; and a bow-mounted underwater camera pipes the action to the lounge and to your cabin TV.

All cabins are equipped with private baths and showers,  memory foam mattresses, flat-screen televisions and iPod docking system.  Most importantly they all have big windows so that you do not miss a thing!
