California has 1,110 miles of coastline that extends from Oregon in the north down to the Mexico border, encompassing ancient redwood forests, mighty cliffs, white-sand beaches, sleepy fishing hamlets and bohemian arts communities, quite apart from some of America’s glitziest and most eclectic cities. Some of the beach resorts are very close to Los Angeles and you will find them under that city heading.

Why should I visit The Coast?
You can admire the beautiful coastal scenery along the stunning Pacific Coast Highway, watch wildlife such as sea lions, sea otters and migrating whales, or get active and go kayaking through giant kelp or surf the rollers at iconic places including Malibu, Huntington Beach and Santa Cruz.
TIP - The most popular section of the Pacific Coast Highway is the stretch between Monterey and San Simeon. Allow a full day or even two with an overnight so you can stop to take in all the sights.
TIP - Coast roads can be very slow, especially in summer. If time is limited, take the fast inland freeway to your intended destination so that you can leisurely explore the coast there when you arrive.
