Day 1


Depart Chicago aboard Amtrak's Empire Builder.
Arrive at Chicago's historic Union Station to meet your tour manager, and board the famed Empire Builder for your overnight trip. Take your seat and enjoy the stunning scenery as you pass. Important points along this afternoon's route include Milwaukee, the Mississippi River and Lake Michigan.
You will spend this first night on the train.

Day 2

Chicago to Glacier National Park

As you awaken this morning you will be nearing Minot, North Dakota for a 30 minute rest stop. Then you will head towards Montana and the stunning scenery of Glacier National Park, while on board you will be able to learn more about the local area as part of the Trains and Rails programme in the Sightseer Lounge.

Your hotel for the duration of your stay in the park will be Glacier Park Lodge, an historic lodge in the heart of the park that is famed for having more than 25 different glaciers, 130 lakes and 200 waterfalls.

You will spend 3 nights at Glacier Park Lodge.

Day 3

Glacier National Park

This morning you will board a vintage open-top Jammer Bus for a tour of the park. You will be taken along the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road and across the Continental Divide. There will be a stop at the historic Lake McDonald Lodge for lunch. When you return to the lodge, you will have the rest of the day for your leisure.

Day 4

Glacier National Park

This day begins with a trip to the area of Glacier National Park, appropriately named Many Glacier. The waterfalls, lush scenery and hiking will appeal to nature lovers. From here you will board a boat for a tour of Swiftcurrent Lake where you may well encounter some local wildlife on the shores, there will be a chance for further exploration before heading back to the lodge.

Day 5

Glacier National Park to Yellowstone National Park

After enjoying your breakfast, you will depart Glacier National Park and head out on the scenic drive to Yellowstone National Park. Entering the park through the North Entrance will take you through the Roosevelt Arch and past Mammoth Hot Springs.
You will spend two nights at Yellowstone National Park at either Grant Village or Canyon Lodge.

Day 6

Yellowstone National Park

You will spend the day exploring one of America’s most famous National Parks with a guided tour that takes in some of its most well-known sites including the Upper and Lower falls, Hayden Valley, Old Faithful, Fountain Paint Pot and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

Day 7

Yellowstone National Park to Grand Teton National Park

Jackson and Grand Teton National Park
Following a leisurely departure from Yellowstone you will head to Grand Teton National Park today, with a stop at Lewis Falls along the way. Grand Teton National Park boasts one of the most spectacular landscape views in the world with beautiful mountain ranges and sparkling lakes.
Spend two nights in The Lodge at Jackson Hole, just outside the park.

Day 8

Grand Teton National Park

Following on from breakfast, you will embark upon a floating tour of Snake River to admire the mountain ranges and forests that the park is home to! Wildlife lovers will enjoy this trip as bison, elk and moose sightings are common. You will have the rest of the day to your own devices for exploring.

Day 9

Grand Teton National Park to Salt Lake City

Departing Jackson Hole you will visit the National Oregon/California Trail Center in Idaho. The centre is located at a former rest stop for pioneers and will give you the opportunity to step back in time, before heading off to Salt Lake City for an overnight at the Doubletree by Hilton.

Day 10

Salt Lake City to Moab

Today you will drive the scenic route to Moab from Salt Lake City, via the San Rafael Valley with an overnight stay at Red Cliffs Lodge, close to the national park.

Day 11

Arches National Park

Today you will embark upon on a guided tour of Arches National Park, and you will some of its 2,100 stunning rock formations. Other highlights of the park include the Delicate Arch and the landscape Arch. In the afternoon you will be free to explore the surrounding area of Moab and the Colorado River Red Rocks.

Day 12

Arches National Park to Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park
Today’s excursion will take you the Canyonlands National Park for more amazing scenery, encompassing some beautiful coloured canyons along the Colorado River. You will also visit Dead Horse Point State Park before spending the night at the DoubleTree by Hilton.
One night in Grand Junction.

Day 13

California Zephyr

Today you begin your journey home aboard the magnificent California Zephyr for a breathtaking journey through the Colorado Rockies, reflect upon your journey as you pass some the country’s most spectacular scenery.

Overnight on the train.

Day 14

California Zephyr to Chicago

Your journey on the California Zephyr this morning will take you across the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers as well through the farmlands of Illinois before arriving back in Chicago. Post-night stays in Chicago are strongly recommended to prevent missed connections.

Amtrak accommodations are available in a range of different classes. When travelling in Roomette or Bedroom class, all meals aboard the train are included.

Coach - includes a reclining seat with a leg rest.

Roomette - A private cabin with two comfortable seats that convert to an upper and lower berth at night.

Bedroom - A private cabin with a sofa and a chair that convert to an upper and lower berth at night, also included are a sink, and a self-enclosed toilet and shower.
