The Breakdown

Here's a day-by-day guide to your itinerary. Feel free to ask us to add other days or ideas and excursions by adding them to your wishlist, so we can give you the best price.

Day 1

Fly into Boston for a three night stay

Boston is a splendid city for adults and children alike.  Not only are there the museums such as Children’s Museum, the Science Museum, the Boston Aquarium and the Franklin Park Zoo — all of which are wonderful but there are carousels, the famed Swans to ride on Boston Common and Castle Island to explore as well.

3 nights in Boston

Day 4

Boston to Mystic

Collect your car and head out of town towards Mystic in Connecticut for 3 nights.  This two hour drive cold be split in Providence, the capital of Rhode Island.  In Mystic, there is lots to see and do. Mystic Seaport is a living history recreation of a 19th-century whaling port and home to the Charles W Morgan, the last wooden whaleship in the world. Watch as sails are rigged on tall ships and newspapers are printed; help make a rope or dip candles. Nearby are Mystic Aquarium and the deep-sea Institute for Exploration.

TIP - Buy a Mystic Pass Card to save time and money.  In nearby  Groton, go aboard USS Nautilus at the Submarine Force Museum on the Thames River: the world’s first nuclear powered vessel, the first ship to go to the North Pole, the first submarine to journey ‘20,000 Leagues under the sea’ and in  Ledyard, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum is the USA's largest Native American museum, with interactive exhibits that bring the tribe's heritage and culture to life.

3 nights in Mystic

Day 7

Mystic to Newport

Take the curvy south coast road along South County to Newport RI to spend another 3 nights.  Take the high-speed ferry across to Block Island, explore Fort Adams, designed by Simon Bernard who had worked for Napoleon Bonaparte, sail around the harbour on an America’s cup schooner and for the tennis mad children (or parents) the International tennis Hall of Fame where you can actually play on the hallowed grass courts.

3 nights in Newport

Day 10

Newport to Cape Cod

Exploring the coast of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket.

Five days will never be enough to explore all that Cape Cod and the Islands have to offer but will be enough to whet the appetite and to relax before having to return home.

There are lots of accommodation options on the Cape many of which have wonderful family facilities.

5 nights in Cape Cod

Day 15

Cape Cod to Boston

Time to return home. You could stop at the Plymouth Plantation en route. You can discover the stories of the early settlers and the Mayflower II in this fascinating living history museum.
