The Breakdown

Day 1

San Francisco

Arrive on an early flight into San Francisco, drop your bags at the hotel and start exploring!

If this your first visit to San Francisco you might want to get yourself acquainted with your surroundings, head over to the iconic Coit Tower for beautiful views over the city. Then make your way to the quirky Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood that rose to prominence during the Summer of Love. Grab lunch at one of the district’s many cafes before strolling down toward the Golden Gate Park, where there is something for everyone in this magical part of the city. Our top tip would be to visit the Japanese Tea Garden for a spot of tea. After you’ve finished exploring the park, the nearby Cliff House is a great place to eat with beautiful sunset views over the pacific.

Day 2

San Francisco

Today you’ll visit some of San Francisco’s most famous sites. First head over to Lombard Street to see the famous crooked street! As well as the unique look of this street, the surrounding Victorian houses are equally impressive.

Take the cable car over to Fisherman’s Wharf for its famed fresh seafood and its sit-down eateries. From here you can walk to the bustling Pier 39, a waterfront area filled with shops, attractions and street performers. You can visit the Aquarium, ride the carousel or buy your holiday souvenirs. You may even catch a glimpse of the bay's most famous residents, the Sea Lions.

From here you can either rent a bike or take a ferry out to see the Golden Gate Bridge, one of America’s most recognisable landmarks. The bridge really is a remarkable sight, and to get a true sense of its sheer size make sure you walk or bike along its 1.7-mile span.

Across the bridge is the charming town of Sausalito which is a beautiful place to spend an evening. Enjoy one of the many waterfront restaurants before taking a ferry back to Pier 39.

Day 3

San Francisco

Start your day with a visit to one of the most iconic destinations in the city, the world-renowned Alcatraz prison. From 1934 until 1963, this imposing fort like structure in the centre of the bay was home to notorious criminals like Al Capone and Ethel Rosenberg. Be aware that tickets for this extremely popular attraction often fill up weeks in advance, so book as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

When you arrive back on land you could visit the Ferry Building Marketplace for a delicious late lunch. If you’re desperate to part with your hard earned cash then it is time for you to visit Union Square, the main shopping hub of San Francisco. Filled with luxury restaurants, hotels and designer brands this is the place for shopping fanatics.

As night falls head over to Chinatown, this bustling area is filled with shops and restaurants serving a wide variety of Chinese delicacies. This is the largest Chinatown outside of Asia and with surprises around every corner, make sure you explore thoroughly.

Day 4

San Francisco

Set in such a beautiful part of California, there is plenty to do beyond the borders of San Francisco. So if you feel like escaping the city, today might be your day to do so. There are lots of fascinating day trips that are close including nearby Berkeley, Mendocino and Monterey. However, we’ve outlined two of our favourite trips below.

Yosemite National Park

The breathtaking natural beauty of Yosemite National Park is just a short drive from the city and the trip is filled with great stopping points including Inspiration Point and Sierra Nevada. When you arrive at the park you could choose to hike and see the Giant Sequoia Trees or view the stunning El Capitan.

Napa Valley and Sonoma County

The wine of the Napa Valley is famed throughout the world, and this could be your chance to sample it up close. Walk through the beautiful vineyards, learn more about winemaking or simply take the opportunity to sample some of the world’s finest wines.

Ask Frontier America to arrange a tour to you.

Day 5

San Francisco

Use your final day in San Francisco to visit any attractions that you may have missed out, or purchase the last of your souvenirs before heading back to San Francisco International Airport for you onward/homebound flight.
