Drive through Birmingham, Alabama another place well known for its 1963 civil rights campaign and on to The Shoals where you can tour the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, where you are greeted by a wax figure of Nat King Cole; it is full of pictures, clothes and of course instruments and recording gear. You can also visit the Muscle Shoals studio and FAME where the Swampers backed so many stars and the home of the “father of the blues,” the W.C. Handy Home & Museum

The Shoals to Greenwood
Just 90 minutes gets you to Tupelo, Mississippi, the birthplace of Elvis and from there it is only just over two hours to Greenwood MS where you can tour the B.B. King Museum & Delta Heritage Center as well as the Greenwood Blues Heritage Museum and Gallery.

Greenwood to Memphis
On your way to Memphis, stop into Clarksdale where you can trace the history of the blues in an old train depot, now the Delta Blues Museum. You will need three nights in Memphis as there is so much to see and do. Top of most people’s list is Elvis Presley’s beloved mansion Graceland which has recently had a multi-million dollar facelift where you can easily spend a whole day. Visits to the Sun Studio where Rock ‘n Roll was first recorded and the Stax Museum of American Soul Music are essential and the Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum is brilliant too.

Memphis to Nashville
Making your way towards Nashville, do stop in Jackson TN to visit the home of blues legend Sleepy John Estes and the adjacent Delta Heritage Center. Go back to the “roots of Rock” at the Rockabilly Hall of Fame also in Jackson. You will have three nights in Nashville giving you two full days to visit the Johnny Cash Museum, the Ryman Auditorium, the 1940’s home of the Grand Ole Opry and be part of a radio broadcast of the Grand Ole Opry any Friday or Saturday night. Try Country Dance lessons and two bodacious drinks at the Wild Horse Saloon and enjoy live music daily and learn musical history at the exciting Country Music Hall of Fame.

Nashville to Chattanooga
A good lunch stop today would be in the quaint town of Lynchburg, TN at Miss Mary Bobo’s Boarding House, a southern Mansion, before a tour of the Jack Daniel Distillery. From there it is an easy drive into Chattanooga of the train fame. Have two nights here to see Ruby Falls, a 145 foot flowing waterfall in a cave over 1100 feet underground, ride the Incline Railway, the world’s steepest passenger railway, to top of Lookout Mountain from where you can see seven states from the famous Lover’s Leap. Downtown there is also an excellent aquarium and the Hunter Museum of American Art.
2 nights Chattanooga
Chattanooga to Atlanta
Time to return to Atlanta: it is only 2 hours to the airport so an easy drive before your flight.
