Rated by Zagat in the top 50 US Inns and Resorts, the Georgian 1842 Inn colonnaded facade is the perfect introduction to its interior full of English antiques, tapestries and paintings. It was built in 1842 by John Gresham, a former mayor of Macon and is a fine example of the Greek revival architectural style. It subsequently had some Victorian modifications and a cottage was moved into the 2 acre plot.
The inn now has nineteen rooms of varying styles and sizes, all of which are delightfully decorated many with four poster beds. Some have whirlpool tubs and fireplaces; all have fine linens, Wi-Fi and cable television.
Relaxing is easy at the 1842. Sit on the verandah or in the garden or even in the courtyard reading your complimentary morning newspaper after a delicious breakfast or enjoying the evening appetisers served with a classic mint julep.
Why we like it
