Lake Macdonald Lodge

Glacier National Park, Montana

Our Rating

The Lake Macdonald Lodge is a beautiful Swiss chalet style lodge is located within Glacier National Park. The lodge sits close to the classic Going-to-the-Sun Road and is a perfect place to stay to begin your exploration of this magnificent park.

Since 1913 the historic lodge has nestled on the eastern shore of Lake Macdonald. The lodge itself is very basic with few extra amenities, but what it lacks in home comforts it makes up for with its spectacular location and surroundings. With hiking, boat cruises and horseback riding within the confines of the park there is something for everyone to enjoy here. There are several dining options available at the lodge including Jammer Joe’s Grill and Pizzeria, a delicious restaurant serving hearty American classics. Guests can also purchase souvenirs or treats at the Lake Macdonald Lodge general store and gift shop.

The rooms at the lodge are not luxurious, but they comfortable and rustic in keeping with the tone of the era in which they were built. Amenities like televisions and air-conditioning are not available, however, a fan in every room will help to keep you cool. Every room has a private bathroom, a hair dryer and coffee maker. Some rooms have telephones and Wi-Fi. All rooms are eco-friendly with recycling bins, energy efficient lighting and eco-smart bedding. Rooms in the main lodge are simple and basic but there are also several Duplex Cabins that have seating areas and private bedrooms.
